Belmont, Maine - Introduction
Belmont, formerly Green Plantation, is a town in Waldo County, incorporated on February 2, 1814. In 1855 it ceded land to form the town of Morrill. Situated on Route 3, just west of Belfast, it is an easy commute to that city and coastal Route 1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 14.2 square miles (36.8 km2), of which, 13.6 square miles (35.3 km2) of it is land and 0.6 square miles (1.5 km2) of it (4.08%) is water.
