Hiram Blake Camp
220 Weir Cove Road, Cape Rosier, Brooksville Harborside 04642 Phone : 207-326-4951 Hiram Blake Camp is a family operation, owned and run by the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of Captain Hiram Blake and his wife, Iantha, who founded the camp in 1916. The Camp has been managed co-operatively by each generation through the years. Lucy Blake Venno, daughter of Hiram and Iantha, was 6 years old when the Camp was established. Lucy and her husband, Maurice William Venno, a retired Episcopal clergyman, ran the Camp for more than 30 years and established a congenial and relaxed tone to the life there. Lucy's granddaughter, Deborah Venno Ludlow and her husband David make the day-to-day decisions and will answer if you call or write for further information. Sandy Venno, who with her husband Paul ran the Camp for over two decades, now maintains over an acre of gardens which provide the Camp dining room with much of the organically grown fruits and vegetables served there. Deb's husband Dave keeps the Camp well maintained and the cottages supplied with firewood and kindling. Paul Venno, Sandy's husband, is a commerical lobsterman, one of the few left in Maine who fishes from his own dock. Paul's son Nathan Venno also berths his lobster boat in the Cove and works off the Camp dock.
